No formal note. After this had finished 3 hours of aeration in decanter, I poured a small glass to see where this was. At that point I put my pen down, closed my tasting notebook, and just savored every last bit of this treasure. Too bad KenV's bottle was less than ideal, as this was the very definition of joy. It's also a reminder to buy more of Vallana's current release wines ; Francis, Marina and the rest of the family/team are rising stars. Catch some. very highly recommended
Served non-blind. Another 15 years here, easily.

Extremely youthful. Initially everyone blinded this as old CdP, with the aromatic sweet fruit and herbal quality. Later, the nose became more classic dried rose petal perfume. Full bodied with long finish. WOTN.

Obviously a more pristine bottle in comparison to my last experience with this wine, a night-and-day difference. This was just as enticing aromatically from the pop of the cork as the stellar '61 Campi Raudii from a few weeks back, but it was slower to pull itself together for drinking: at first it seemed sparser and hollower without that sticky, tarry grip of the '61, the flavors heavier on stoniness than savoriness. But it's amazing to see how quickly it fleshes out. In 3 sips over the space of like a minute it transforms from something a little too skeletal and linear into something legitimately rich and oozing personality. It's still heavier on the mineral than the meat but there is plenty of old-wine stickiness to cradle that gravelly goodness.
