There's no denying this is a well-made & rich Shiraz. Fruit is sourced from Eden & Barossa Valley vineyard planted in the 1930s. Extensive time in French oak, one source mentioned 40 months but no word on Sorby Adams' winemakers notes.
The usual suspects for a wine like this are evident on the nose instantly: vanilla, ripe black cherries, blackberry, cedar wood, licorice, dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans. The palate is dense, full-bodied, ripe & jammy black fruits with chocolate & vanilla overtones and smooth, supple tannins that have mellowed considerably considering the time in oak.
The only issue I see here is there's very little X-Factor, yes the intensity and finish are strong, but the level of complexity is lacking somewhat for a wine that lists at $150 AUD on the producer's website. It's textbook top-tier Barossa Valley Shiraz, with no surprises. I can see why people would love this wine, and a few years ago I would have adored it, but maybe my tastes have changed to a lighter style of wine. Paired nicely with a char-grilled T-Bone.

This has matured nicely in my cellar. Intense fruit flavours - a big Barossa shiraz.
