  • I was quite worried that this wine was going to be well past its prime, so I opened it with trepidation, expecting a possible sinker. Decanted and drank a first glass after 15min. Color was pretty good, quite a deep red with just a tinge of copper at the edges which would indicate oxidation. I got heavy black cherry and blackberry notes on the nose, which carried over into the initial taste. The finish was slightly hot and short, but not unpleasant.

The second glass I had at 45min after opening was softer, less fruity and with more of a generic red wine taste. The finish on the second glass featured a more pronounced acidity and bitterness, still short-lived, but inviting rather than offensive.

I guess I lucked out, having missed prime time for this bottle, yet still having an enjoyable few glasses out of it!

  • Red fruit/berries and a bit of mint; whatever tannins were here have fully integrated, and I couldn't detect any oak at all -- I don't know whether this sees any to begin with. Some mouthwatering acidity makes this work well with rich food. I opened this at a good time, I think. At $25 this was a steal.

  • Dark, full bodied, gentle giant of flavor, simple structure.

  • Very dark maroon hue. Nose is dense strawberry jam. Black fruit on the palate with cocoa & pepper notes. Not bad at all. Popped & poured.

  • Full bodied, short finish, nothing particularly notable. Poor QPR.
