Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Almost fully opaque and somewhat murky mahogany appearance. Very aged and quite oxidative nose with tertiary aromas of nutty tawny character, raisins, old smoky tones, some treacle, a little bit of beef jerky and a hint of soy sauce. The wine is medium-bodied, quite tertiary and surprisingly silky on the palate with flavors of sweet smoke, some sour cherries, a little bit of raisiny fruit and light nutty tones of tawny port. The wine is moderately high in acidity, which gives the wine some sense of balance and structure. The finish is old, quite pungent and very lengthy with tertiary flavors of nut paste, raisins, some tobacco, a little bit of soy sauce and a hint of salt-cured beef.

A very old and tertiary red Burgundy that is long past its peak, but yet to fall apart in pieces. Despite its aged character, the wine is still relatively enjoyable - given one normally enjoys older wines. Nevertheless, as the wine is not in prime condition anymore, I'm going to abstain from giving it a rating. All in all, this is a wine that should've been drunk 10-20 years ago.
