  • Very typical Oz riesling, good value

  • Cool fermentation that was stopped before the wine reached complete dryness. 10% alcohol, 14,9 g/l residual sugar, 8,6 g/l acidity and pH 2,82.

Pale yellow-green color. Fragrant and very varietally correct nose with aromas of beeswax, perfumed white flowers, some lemon marmalade, a little bit of peachy stone fruit and a hint of green apple. The wine is light-bodied, crisp and racy on the palate with bright and focused, off-dry flavors of Granny Smith apple, some tart key lime and lemony citrus fruits, a little bit of steely minerality, light lemon marmalade tones, sweet hints of white peach and ripe grapey fruit and a touch of apple peel bitterness. The bracing acidity lends great sense of structure and precision to the wine and offsets most of the residual sugar sweetness. The finish is crisp, racy and acid-driven with quite long and vibrant flavors of lemony citrus fruits and tangy green apples, some steely minerality, a little bit of white flowers and a hint of grapey fruit.

A very precise, fresh and harmonious Riesling that reminds me more of Nahe than the classic Australian Rieslings that are either very steely and austere or too ripe and heavy on petrol. This wine, on the other hand, has all the stylistic hallmarks of the greatest off-dry Nahe wines: incisive acidity, cool mineral core and to counterpoint all this, a good deal of ripe yet not too ripe fruit and a dash of residual sugar. Great stuff, but still all too youthful at the moment. It feels like this wine will need at least a few years to come together fully and most likely it will continue to develop for years more. One of the most serious "German" Rieslings I've had from Australia, or the whole new world for that matter. Highly recommended.
