  • Very deep and intense neon green color - remarkably youthful for the age. The nose feels quite sweet and pretty aged with waxy aromas of bruised apples, oxidative nuttiness, some old perfumey notes, a little bit of dried flowers, hints of arctic bramble and a touch of elderberry. The wine is dry-ish, developed and quite oily on the palate with surprisingly mineral flavors of wizened apples, stony mineral bitterness, quite pronounced buttery character, a little bit of sweet white peach, light nutty tones, a hint of perfumed floral character and a touch of wizened lychee. Overall the wine feels quite full-bodied with moderately high in acidity, but despite the complexity the fruit feels somewhat thin and dilute, lacking the power and intensity to fill out the body, making the wine come across as slightly lean and hollow. The finish is rich, very long and oily with lots of developed creamy tones of butter and panna cotta, some oxidative nutty tones, a little bit of apple jam, light perfumed tones, a hint of spicy minerality and a touch of dried lychee.

A wonderfully rich, complex and harmonious Gewurztraminer showing how impressively even simple entry-level Gewurztraminers can age in favorable conditions. Sure, you can taste that this wine has lost some of the stuffing with age, as the nuanced fruit department feels slightly inadequate to fill out the big body, the wine feels slightly hollow, but it really doesn't bother much since the wine is so beautifully nuanced and harmonious as a whole. All in all, this might not be the greatest dry wine I've had, but it is still a delicious experience all the same.
