  • I've enjoyed this delicious wine, the ‘17 Cavallotto Langhe Grignino Grign, over the past two nights. I am not a big Grignolino fan, but this is an excellent wine: precise, structured, aromatic, lip-smacking, persistent, elegant. It was MUCH better on night two, so a long slow-ox or a multi-hour decanting is highly recommended. I can't ever remember drinking a more delicious Grignolino. And, they only made 100 cases, so for Grignolino fans this might be Nirvana.

As good as this is, for me it is too expensive. At this price point there are other equally delicious and even more complex wines: cru BoJo, Chiantis from top producers, some of the wines of Calabretta or Vallana. But it is an excellent, delicious wine !

  • Piedmont; 2/11/2019-2/15/2019 (Alba, Italy): Super fun wine that was opened as a little bonus at the end of our tasting. This is a grape from the Monferrato region that sees only stainless steel in its elevage. Fruity and incredibly spicy, with a lightness that reminds me of a Jura red (but a little more tannin and spice, and less funky). There's also an interesting dirtiness there that you get from some of the more rustic pinot noirs (in a good way).
