  • Think it has turned somewhere along the way.
    Very disappointing.
    No nose or Chardonnay taste.

Did not pair well with my baked seafood dinner

  • Intensely golden, slight haze (unfiltered). Aged nose of aldehydic bruised apple, butterscotch, iris. Reminiscent of aged Champagne. Palate lacks freshness or fruit character, being dominated by iris and butterscotch, with the bruised apple also evident. Slightly phenolic texture, bitter end. Rich, rounded and hot - 14.2% alcohol. This is a huge disappointment for the price. Picked far too late, lacks elegance, prematurely aged. To be avoided.

  • Over-the-top buttery popcorn (ML). Way out of balance, very hard to find any fruit in there. Would not re-buy. Is this the house style, or just this one expression?

  • Lovely greenish-yellow complexion
Lemon curd, some green hay, lychee floral notes
Some acidity, relatively round. Some spritz. Shortish finish.
I LOVED the 2014. I found this a little lacklustre in comparison. A little flabby, and just not what I was hoping for. Still very nice for a patio sipper. I won't load up on this vintage.

  • My first experience with Checkmate. Compared to many of the Oakanagan chardonnays I have tried this does standout. While not Burgundian, it is not over the top Napa style either. Perhaps somewhere in between. What kept if from really standing out in my opinion was the light structure on the mouthfeel. Maybe a sign of it not being age worthy. This wine was not a pop and pour however. Both the nose and palate benefited from 20-30 minutes of oxygen Integration.

The wine looks light gold colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like grapefruit, lemon, apple, pear, mineral, stoniness and green olive. It tastes like grapefruit, lemon, apple, pear, mineral, green olive and butterscotch. The body is light. The wine has narrow texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.
