I have 4 years of ERA wines and have only tried a few vintages, but I have been consistently disappointed for the price point and vs AO’s single vineyard offerings. This ‘17 was no different. I’m not a huge fan of the ‘17 vintage but in general they are starting to drink better than at release, and given the care put into creating the ERA wines I figured the ‘17 ERA had a decent shot at being good. Tasted at Pnp, after 3 and 5 hours decant, and on day 3. Best after the 3 and 5 hour decants, surprisingly ok at Pnp, significantly worse on day 3. Notes are for day 1 only. Lovely nose which opens with the decant, rich Napa fruit, savory notes, similar on the palate. Tannins are obvious but not unpleasant, alcohol is there but mostly balanced. I was surprised at only 5% Malbec because it was very identifiable with dark fruits and licorice notes. Finish was med+ and it went well with steak, not surprisingly. All in all a very good wine but not special. Not sure if my other 2 bottles will be better with time but I will hold for 5 and 10 to see what happens.
I mean it’s A0 ERA…. I have enjoyed ERA in vintages from 2013 to present and this is no different. Just a beautiful expression in Bordeaux style. The nose is big upon opening, no need to stick nose in the glass but when you do you are rewarded with beautiful, mature fruit which surprised me just a little given it’s relatively young. Drank wonderfully with a creamy finish , good acid and medium + tannins. I have not had the high end BORDEAUXs (yet) but can’t imagine this being too far off. We enjoyed this bottle on its own with charcuterie but I have paired with a classic steak dinner many times in the past. It’s a nearly perfect wine. I want to let the others age but I just can’t keep my hands off the ERA. YES TO ERA every time
Fourth time I've tried a young Era, and I'm under the belief that these will be far better wines with considerable age. Today, I might rate it 93, but it will probably improve greatly. I don't have the experience with that improvement path, so I won't hazard a guess for where this will land. Recommend giving this at least 10 years of age for best results.

decanted for 5 hours. Nice but a lot more room to improve. Not as structured (yet?) as 2014 or even 16.
