  • This wine was a disappointment after tasting a bottle of 2013 Fogarty Santa Cruz Mountains Damiana Vineyard, which was one of the best Chardonnays I have ever tasted - perhaps the top five - in thirty years world-wide. Admittedly this one was an entry level wine, and I note that Wine Advocate gave it 91 points. There is good acidity, minerality, and fruit, but to me it is rather similar to many Chardonnays from California where you experience the oak and the alcohol and tropical overtones that are way too obvious to be enjoyable throughout an evening. I have great hopes for Thomas Fogarty, but I will save my bucks for the more complex and balanced Damiana and try some of his other single vineyards when I can find them. In short, I'd rather pay $60 for the Damiana than $30 for this one.
