Day 3 I think. Day 1 this was pretty but a little lean - just lacking a bit of fullness where you'd want it. Today it is just right. Nose is classic musky melon, creamy, rock candy, whipped cream. Luscious and lively. The palate is lovely - as I said, just right. Again, musky melon, with some crisp lime peel, a bit of spices, cream, Juicy fruit gum. Sweet and lively - dances in the mouth. The finish is similar but right now just a bit more burly - but still very crisp, just off dry and perfumed. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 16.5-17/20.
Day 6: This is totally resolved and wonderful. Smoke, musky melon, juicy fruit, honey, pollen. Hints of lime. The palate is just great - enters sweet but a lively level of lime keeps this afloat. Rock candy and honey, white flowers, lime, musky melon. the finish has an explosion of liveliness and juiciness. Playful and exciting. The burliness has resolved into verve and grip. Excellent. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20.

2018 is the largest yielding vintage Egon has ever seen. Balanced sweetness and charming pear fruits. Medium bodied, ripe with 60g/L residual sugar. Reminds me of Dr. Loosen, sweet and fruity. Slight smokey finish. 2.9pH. (82/100)

Egon Müller's father - also named Egon - bought up 50% of the vineyards of Le Gallais in Wiltinger Braune kupp in the Saar back in 1954, and has been a rare sight.
This year, fortunately, the wines are back and the Kabinett in particular impresses. Especially because Egon Müller only launches the Kabinett in cooler vintages and the last vintage was in 2014.
How can it then be launched in the super-warm 2018 vintage? Well, a little cooler last part of September helped the grapes a lot and the wine shows freshness with clear acidity that seduces. It probably also helped that the vineyard's location at a part of the Saar River and the soil of red slate gives the wines a slightly more charming tone as young. So against the odds - this was a brilliant fresh cabinet!
Tasting Note
Rich and appealing with a wider aromas pwith nectar, Cantaloupe melon, white flowers and light pepper as seduces. Medium to medium-bodied wine with a relatively good balance between the light fat mouthfeel and the nice freshness. Appealing juicy yellow fruits and fresh fruit peel. Really seductive finish where the surprisingly clean acid refreshes the wine. Lacking the complexity of the Scharzhofberger, but this is a great Kabinett. 92 points.

Sweetest WbK Kabinett ever drunk, or so it seemed.

Shows the roundness of the vintage with the typical precision expected from Mueller. Acidity balances out the yellow fruit and the finish is strong.
