  • faded ruby with slight orangey hues; tons of iron-minerality on the nose, really expressive with old strawberry and cranberry and small red berry fruits, sap, chalk, hay, iron, medium perfumey; very silky entry with fine resolving tannins still present, good lift, long. Fantastic condition, perfect age, really sailing now and good for another 5+ years? But I wouldn't wait more than 3. With ham, mashed potatoes. Bri and T Easter dinner

  • Darker faded ruby; a bit closed at first, opened up to reveal primarily earth tones, sandal wood, black cherry skins, a bit of Pommard spice, a rusty-clay-like minerality, pine sap; black fruits/berries and red tart cherry as the wine breathed. Good volume, soft and fuller on the attack, fine tannins resolving, got acidic on the finish, very well-balanced if not the most exciting aromatic profile. W/A w/pizza
91-92. In a very good place now, will age another 5-10 but don't see much room for improvement. Try again in 3 years.

  • From a bottle purchased upon receipt and pristinely cellared, this medium garnet Pinot is in a beautiful spot. Uncorked and poured, it fully opens after the first hour in glass to unveil an intoxicating nose of red plums, raspberries, rose petals, nutmeg, allspice, leather and cocoa. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic and without noticeable alcohol (13%), it delivers flavors that are congruent with the aromas. At this stage the tannins are fully integrated, as is the wood. Impressively dense on the mid-palate and long on the back end, this is a fully mature Burgundy that has blossomed into something of classic quality. It has held up longer than previously projected. Those holding comparably cellared bottles will be happy to know that this has plenty of fruit to stay in balance for another 3-4 years. As such, those same bottles will reach their twentieth birthday with grace! Drink now-2025.

  • I normally do very little drinking of Burgundy between 3 and 15 years of age, but the fact that I am rather deep in this wine and a number of convincing CT notes enticed me to try a bottle as a reward on return from a rather stressful trip. Initially quite elegant, as Epenots can be, with medium-light weight, red fruits, and some lead pencil. Round tannins. A very good expression of Epenots.

Seemingly drinkable now but with room for improvement.

After being open for a couple of hours, the tannins inherent in 2005s come out, suggesting that for all its attractiveness now, the wine may re-enter a closed stage.

The label indicates that this is a wine that was bought in barrel and raised by Giroud. Lot L686. Cellared since original release.

  • Showing a bit of age, earthy damp rose petals with light compost, low fruit here, nice mellow tannins now, in a good place, but still a little thin mid-palate and not great on its own. Actually fantastic with pork dumpling soup--better than a 2014 Chavy Puligny for some reason (perhaps the pork-cabbage in the dumpling, and the beef broth?).
