At first open: lots of etOh and cherry cough drop, but with just a very few minutes in the glass, old leather, cassis, cedar and earthy funk. Cork in great shape, color looks promising. I'll update the note after tonight's dinner, 5 hours hence. Seems promising, but not $85 (release) promising. 14,2% abv
update: this is alive and well, with very fresh acids and structure that shows real promise. Much more (positive) tertiary development yet to come. Acid, tannin and fruit all in a good proportion right now, the future looks bright.

Wow. I found this and a 2003 totally forgotten in the bottom of a rack. I had visited Flora Springs tasting room a few years back and was totally ignored. I might as well have been furniture. I buy and invest in a lot of Cab and a friend has suggested I try this vineyard. Could even catch the attention of the help and I was only one of 3 people there! Bought some of the wine elsewhere based on the mentioned recommendation. Tonight I didn't have time to decant so used an areator and over the next hour it just kept getting better and better. Lots of Rutherford dusty and cocoa, some smoke and black cherries and a little pencil lead. Makes me thing I need to give Flora Springs another chance.
Decanted 1 hr. Mature Cabernet, with plenty of delicate red floral, red currant and dust on the nose. Finely textured palate with excellent acidity and integrated, fine-grained tannins. The lighter side of full-bodied. Excellent at half the price, but since it cost $80, not $40, just OK. (2) bottles remain that I will hope for more attractive secondary development. Drink thru 2017, 14,2% abv.

Tannic to start, but after 15 minutes or so the fruit starts to come through...soft, delicious. Still drinking very well.

Full berry flavors, complex, long finish. Decanted and let sit for an hour.
