  • This is definitely a ripe Pinot, leaning towards the Syrah-ish side of the grape. Checking in at 14.1%, it presents slightly stewed black cherries, tarragon, cranberry sauce, and bacon fat. Enough acidity to retain some freshness, but a little big for my taste. A little heat on the back end.
Day 3: the heat has blown off, and this has smoothed out into a tasty, but not especially unique, moderate-climate Pinot. That acidity is still there, and the wine is distinctly floral, with peonies and lavender; the meaty notes are gone, and the tannins have glossed over.

  • Toasty caramel, flowers, earth, spice, cranberries, tarragon, raspberry jam, dried cherries, and vanilla cola. The bouquet is rich and enticing, while the fruit is energetic and juicy with an acidic backbone. Alcohol is only 14%, but there's still some distracting heat. Hold until 2022.
