Initial nose of bubble gum/confectionery sugar......body is thin, color is a transparent ruby red, wine feels old and worn. 85 to start. Two hours in and the wine changes, for the better. Lots of leather and mushrooms on the nose, some stemmy green character but not pyrazine. Very, very nice old Napa type wine, Jen.....thanks!
addendum: later on as more time passed this wine (remarkably for its age) held together and maybe even got 1 point deeper in its fruit profile. I was pretty amazed about that. The stemmy herbal character may have strengthened a tad also by then but was not offputting in any way. I'd say 93 at the end for me. Thanks again for the 'experience', Jen!
Jen-a-palooza with Paul, Mark and Carol; 10/22/2021-10/24/2021 (Atlanta): This showed much better than my previous bottle. Again drinkable but thin on opening. Lovely confectionary nose. Evolved over time and at 2 hours showing dark fruits, some green and stems, mushrooms and mild leather. Glad to share this with someone else who could appreciate!
Drank this initially after a 1 hr decant and was not impressed. Seemed thin, aromas I can only describe as ‘perfumey’ , not much fruit or finish. I almost poured it down the drain. Two hours later it was a different story, rounder dark fruit on the nose and palate, much more complexity and more in line with what I was hoping for from this wine. Clearly needs 2+ hours to show its stuff. If it is still drinkable tonight I will attempt a rating. EDIT: not drinkable on day 2, nose of mushrooms, no fruits, and dilute on the palate
