Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of perfume, talc and mixed berries. Flavors of currants, berries and bitters. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium body. Drink over the short term, perhaps into the medium term?

Interesting Super Tuscan. Impenetrable purple color. Almost no nose, hint of red fruit and spice. The taste is interesting. Lots of solid red fruit and herbs up front. Nice. The midpalate is lacking, only faint fruit and pepper. Then on the back end, you get big fruit and black pepper (I think there's some Cab in the blend) and, oddly, the faint taste of sauteed mushrooms. Actually a long taste. Lots to like here, but the weak midpalate lowers the score. Very rich and full mouth feel.

Italy (Wine Exchange (Orange, CA)): Almost opaque red. Interesting combination of minerality and rasined fruit, with anisette and a slight woody tone adding yet more nuance. Very sweet but not heavy; seems lifted by the spiciness. Long. Could be tiring to drink a bottle, but in this format it's real attractive.

Nice fruit and spice. Some Brett and weak mid-palate. Still good vino.
