The color was very dark reddish purple, and the flavor matched the color. This is a Tuscan-style blend, but with no Cabernet Sauvignon. Instead, we have 12 percent Syrah.
I think the Syrah, along with the oak, contributed to the dark, heavy, tannic feel the wine had at first. The Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc delivered an herbal, earthy taste on the attack.
The nose was a lot fruitier, and the wine became better balanced after a day.
If you like earthy, savory wine, you will probably enjoy this a lot. If you prefer rich Napa or Australian wines, you probably won't enjoy it. I think this wine can easily age another couple of years to help bring out the fruit, and decrease the tannins a bit.
A very well executed example of the style that Saviah were going for. If it were me, I might include just a bit of Cab Sauv, to help the midpalate equal the attack and finish.
