I've always thought this producer was very underrated, and this bottle is more evidence of that. An amazing brickish color at this point with some tints of very dark orange at the rim. The wine does not need to settle down - first sip showed the integration was in mid stride with very nice notes of stewed fruits, cedar and honey. Tannins are present though not overwhelming, making for a nice structure. My only small complaint was that two hours on, the wine took on a slightly acidic note, suggesting the fruit did not have much longer to hold up. At this point, I think the wine is peaking (producers himself claims can age "10-15 yrs") but I think it's got a good 5yrs left in it. After that I think it just becomes curious. But overall a very enjoyable Barolo at non-Giacosa prices.

Barolo, so beautiful. And only $40 on KLWines!!! Better than every California wine I've ever tried. What makes this wine so beautiful is not just the "tar and roses," but also the interwoven wood.

Double decanted at 1 pm back into the bottle, the brought to the midtown wine destination - Peking Duck House - for dinner with 5 non-geeks. Used Bormioli Barolo Riserva glasses (my own, I decided to go full geek wth my friends and bring glasses for everyone). Textbook barolo but still had time to go before it reaches its peak. Earthyness, road tar, dark fruit, violet on the nose a bit of mushroom in the earthyness. Very smooth, almost silky presentation. Tanins are somewhat subdued, probably due to the decant. Delicious. It disappeared fast.

Very good Barolo. Drank with the 2001 Manzone. The Bricat had much more depth.
