Drank from mag over 3 days. Deep red fruits backed with vibrant acidity and a menthol lift. Tangerine rind, fleshy cherries, lavendar and spices emerge as air softens the tannins and reveals what is below the surface.
The sturdy structure provides a constant as the wine aerates. Even as the tannins soften, the contours frame the complexities develop, and make sure the wine is identifiable on all days. Surely a wine that will develop beautifully over decades (especially in mag form).

Served blind this was relatively easy to peg as a younger Barolo though the 8-10 hours of decanted did help to tame the tannin and show nice integration. A down the middle Barolo in most ways though it did show some wood notes that will hopefully integrate with time.

Piece Pizza and Barolo (Eric&Megan's, Chicago IL): This was a pop and pour and it was worse off for it in my opinion. Maybe it was also due to the older Barolos that were with it. The nose was shy, but showing what it can become with olive paste, dark red cherries, cranberries, licorice, tobacco, mint, violets, winter savory spices, and some roasted herbs. The Full bodied feel is restrained, while the high acidity has punch and the high tannins are youthful and chewy, it doesn’t feel too overpowering. I have avoided Paolo Scavino for a long time due to past sins and it’s time for me to maybe re-examine it. This wasn’t overly oaky and I didn’t get too much of the imprint on it. I would absolutely love to try a bottle of this in 7-10 years when it is in much more harmony as the raw materials are extremely good.

This is already a tasty drop at such a young age. Fairly open, as many 16s seem to be. The nose is so fragrant and floral, very enticing. The palate leans glossy, but also super silky. Kind of straddling modern and traditional here. Cherry fruit emerges along with hints of sweet dark fruit that turns more austere through the middle. Comes on in waves as it opens. Very suave but youthful. Good potential.

Floral, red fruits. Surprisingly open and less tannic than the normale. Drinking well now with plenty of time for improvement.
