Slightly sweet but deftly smooth. Maraschino cherry, black currant and honey with undertones of raisin and butter. Crazy unique, not much of a dinner wine but a superb evening night cap. 90 pts.

Served @ 13.5c/56f (12.0% abv), with Meatballs and Mashed Potatoes. Wine is Ruby red in the glass, medium-bodied and semi-sweet, but not too sweet. Wine seems more off-dry rather than semi-sweet.
Dark red fruit on the palate and earthy spice. Tanins are prominent, with some harshness, but this is a new 2018 vintage and should benefit from some additional time/cellaring. Structure is complex with well balanced acid. Finish is somewhat tart with a lingering pleasant finish. Wine is a good accompaniment with food, or stand alone, or even as an after-dinner wine. Wine is reminiscent of an Italian Amarone, but without the intensity of concentrated fruit flavors. At $15 I would buy again.
Georgian wines are becoming more readily available in DC, with various reds, whites and sparkling wines. A while ago I sampled Artevani, a dry, Georgian Saperavi Red and was surprised to learn the Republic of Georgia is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, wine-producing region in the world. A documentary has been made since then, "Prime Meridian of Wine Georgie," about Georgia being the birthplace of wine; i.e. the first place to domesticate the wine grape and produce the first wine some 8,000 years ago.
The documentary is not on-line but there is a trailer on You Tube. Some questionable web-sites claim to have the documentary but require credit-card information to gain access, so I’d be very wary and wait until some reputable site (Netflix, You Tube, etc) acquires the film.
