  • {cork, 14.5%} I hunted down another bottle of this to see if the last was typical. This was better, or at least without suggestion of overt fault. But it still seems a bit dilute. Dry, mild blackberry fruit, savoury in character. Dusty sort of palate, with thick grape tannins, not much oak, but surprisingly dense anyway. Acid not prominent, gives it a thick sort of texture. I wanted to like it more, but it seems devoid of much liveliness somehow. Medium weight. shortish, dull sort of finish. Meh.

  • {cork, 14.5%} Visually I’d have picked this for ten years not five, with its bricking edge and oranging colour. A bit prune and raisin on the nose, growing increasingly new world as time passes. Not obviously oaky. Baked blackberries though. Smells warm, too. There’s a distinct mustiness on the palate that’s not evident on the nose, which is really odd. Still baked fruit, a lot of alcohol, medium/full palate, bit it fades away from the mid-palate back and the finish is no better than medium length. If this is typical, then not even close to a repeat buy. But, is it typical? All I know is I never taste or smell this musty character in a wine sealed with something other then natural cork. Sigh.

  • 2.5h air for this Montalcino that is aged in Slavonian oak barrels of 30-35 hl for 8 months.

Medium/Light ruby color, aromas of cherry, raspberry, clay pot, dust and mocha. Medium-bodied, silky texture, bright red fruit on the palate with earthy undertones. Chalky tannins in the finish and hint of bitterness. Attractive now, with potential for improvement with some evolution to the finish.

    At the price, a bargain.
