There isn't much structure to this Tuscan blend of Sangiovese (70%) and Merlot, and it makes you wonder why Merlot is even needed given how well Tuscan Sangiovese can stand on its own, but there's still a fairly likeable mix of dried fruit (raisins, berries), vanilla-caramel, earthy mushroom and herb, and balsamic umami here, and the softness is fine if overly jammy. The dried fruit (in the "governo" method, partially dried grapes are added to the fermentation) and caramel tilt everything towards excessive, almost cloying sweetness (even with just three months in French oak barrels), however, and with little acidity it's that umami element that provides just enough balance to offset those sweeter elements. It's fine, for the style.

Nice wine, but needs to decant for at least an hour or two to open up.

Sunshine on red fruit,
a meander through soft hills,
path clear of tannin.
