  • We bought 12 a few yrs ago, I didn't recall why, so I opened it tonight with curiosity.
Inky purple. Nose of violets, herbal, not much fruit initially.
Palate initially was hot, high tannin, high acid. Hard to experience much else, it was a punch in the tongue. 30 mins decanting it began blossoming beautifully on the nose & palate. 45 mins - Morphed into blueberry jam, light vanilla, dried violets, ripe blackberries, herbs. Very balanced, it smoothed out considerably. Reminds me of a rambunctious muscular pet that after a long walk mellows into a chill, focused critter that you really enjoy.
Paired with rich Moroccan tagine, tomato acid & deep spices meet this wine well = Luxurious dinner.

  • Dark blue fruits on the nose with a slight floral note. Big, bold and dense, but well balanced. Integrated tannins. I was very surprised at how well this is drinking so young, but Mike's wines do lean that way! I'm sure this will last for several years, but with a brief decant, this is so enjoyable!
