  • 8,5% alcohol. Tasted blind among 46 other 2017 Riesling Kabinetts in Kabinett Cup 2017.

Moderately intense lime green color. Somewhat herbal nose with aromas of wizened red apples, a little bit of lager-like herbal hops character, light cheesy notes of Pecorino and a hint of acacia honey. The wine is rich, moderately full-bodied and fruity on the palate with somewhat medium-sweet flavors of ripe citrus fruits, some honey, a little bit of floral spice and a hint of red apple. The wine is moderately high in acidity. The finish is more aci-driven with off-dry flavors of ripe citrus fruits, some pithy grapefruit bitterness, a little bit of floral spice and a hint of honeycomb.

A pleasant, harmonious and drinkable little Kabinett. Perhaps a bit nervous and slightly herbal, suggesting that despite the ripeness of the fruit, perhaps the grapes were picked a bit too early? Nevertheless, the wine shows good sense of balance and I can imagine it will settle down just nicely after a year or two in a cellar. The wine scored a total of 24 points from the 12 judges. resulting in 13th place of 46 wines.
