Deep red in colour, good acidity, moderate tannins for such a young wine, great fruit flavours of black cherry, blackberry, with slight spice notes. There is a hint of vegetal flavours on the back of the palate. This is a very well made and approachable S African cabernet. Easy drinking. The bottle will go fast. It has the stuffing to fatten up with age and gain more flavour complexity with time. Will seek out more to age.

Blind Stellenbosch Cabernets tasting. Drank in Grassl 1855. Wines all double decanted and aired in container for some time already. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purplish ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clan, medium- intensity, with aromas of muted black fruits, some possible cassis and black licorice. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, sticky high tannins, medium+ body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant, menthol and dark herbs. Medium+ finish. Perhaps needs a few more years to open up. Lacking excitement to me at the moment.
