New Zealand South Island Pinot Noirs from Valli: this one is from North Otago, a much cooler zone… though 2018 was a "warmer" one… 13% light-bodied, delicate, and at the moment somewhat reticent wine.
it is light ruby, almost translucent in the glass. the nose is perfumed with rose petals, fresh red cherries, whiffs of clove and a bottom note of forest floor. in the mouth it is light in body and feel, with the fruit flavours giving an astringent juiciness of pomegranate and red currant but underpinned by earthy and spicy notes. the finish is long, light and minty-fresh.
this wine will need some more time (say a couple of years) for that strong acidic core to integrate with the fruit and tannins. definite upside potential here.
it has the feel of some old-world Pinots, or some from California's vineyards at the egde of the Pacific. i do realise this style is a bit of an acquired taste

Very good. Aromas of red berry fruit and whole cluster greenness burst from the glass. I love the bright flavors and free-flowing structure. Weight is not a good thing for pinot.

Pungent Pinot nose, nice but the palate is not as good as the Gibbston, just lacking that precision & delineation
