Nuits St. Georges Tasting (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Tasting, brief note. Fairly large scaled black fruit with faint signs of maturity, much like most 2005s. Very good length, still showing firm tannins on finish. Good now and prob for another decade. Much more integrated and tasty vs 5 years ago when tasted last.

Dark fruited nose with some development. Spice, violets, black fruit, woodland floor and oakiness. Wild and rough, lacking elegance. But flattering. Almost chocolately tones mixes with animal roughness after an hour in the glass. Medium-fullish body, aggressively tannic, dark fruited flavours. Quite oaky and generous. Black currants. Heavy mid-palate with good grip but with a certain bitterness that intermingles with the woodland flavours. The fruit is there, but the wine is leaden-footed as Clive Coates sometimes says about NSG. I agree with other commentators that this is a strange wine. I expected more generosity and some elegance given the vintage. But remember that the vineyard is located on the village side of the road, thus not "proper" PC material. One vintage was not enough to get to know the vineyard for de Montille, I would say. This is way too sturdy, but at the same time a tasty quaff.

Very chary oaky. Not much in the way of fruit. Almost coarse acid. Not my thing
