Dark gold, almost Sauternes-like in colour. Is this oxidised? I wondered. The nose has a certain oxidative character too, but somehow it feels like it was intended that way, with the tangy notes balancing with a creamy texture and a freshness on the finish. I haven't mentioned fruit. Hmm...how about baked orchard fruit. Searching my wine memories, I think the closest I can come to this is a top-notch Encruzado from the Dao. Whether that's down to the variety or the winemaking approach I don't know, but I am intrigued. 13.5%, cork.
