  • Great for $100 , never in my mind for $300. I would guess this wine was bought by the majority of us at berserkersday that had an offer for $100. I feel that for $100 this wine delivers.

  • 1 hour decant prior to service, consumed over 2 days. Day 1 this was still quite primary, even after hours in the decanter. Flavors of cassis, vanilla, oak, and cigar tobacco, creamy texture and abundant acidity. Astringent tannins roll in on the finish and shut things down.

Day 2 the wine had softened nicely, showing the lush fruit, oak and vanilla, without that harshness of the tannins on the finish (still there, just not as overbearing). Paid $100/bottle on a Berserker Day deal and feel okay about it, but draw the line there. For best results, hold until 2026 and drink through 2036.

  • Napa fruit, a touch of mineral/graphite. Just doesn't stand out. 90-91

  • Part of a blind tasting:

Wine #3. About an hour of air.

"Intense black fruit on the nose. Vanilla, pyrazine as well. On the palate, huge structure, a very big wine. Muscular tannins and still tight. Do not get any hints of age. Wine opened up somewhat throughout the night. This wine has noticeable RS, more-so than wine #4 even though their acid/tannin were similar. The RS works in balance with the rest of this structure, but may not be appealing to some. In my opinion I like wines that can be big and balanced without RS. That's why I prefer #4 slightly more. This is definitely napa valley cab and likely 2018. Easily $120+. This needs time, drink 2026 onward. 93 pts."

  • Part of a blind tasting. This was decanted off its sediment for maybe 1h then back into bottle. Notes copied below.

"Good nose. Dark fruit, blue leaning, touch of pyrazines. Beautiful oak. Palate is dense and big. Pretty tight and packed in there. Finish has plenty of tannin and acid, lots of oak and chocolate. Lot of dark fruit. Clearly RS here. Lovely wine that is dark spectrum but stays balanced with respect to oak as well. Revisit with more air. $100+ Napa, 92-93"

Made by Mike Smith, 13x 100pt winemaker of Myriad, Carter, Becklyn, etc.

Clearly a well made wine but over time the RS became more noticeable and prominent. I suppose my preference is a fully dry wine. I bought this with the BerserkerDay discount for around $100, regular price is $235. At $100 I think it would be a good buy if this is your style, but IMO not worth $235. Paying for the beautiful bottle, winemaker, marketing, etc.

Can drink now but also will hold for another several years.
