Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Served cool from medium-sized brandy balloon. Mid copper colour. A rather fiery, high-toned nose, citrus and wood. Not to my taste at all, bitter on the midpalate, rather spicy, a little sweet with plenty of burn. I know very little about cognac, but had higher hopes for an XO. Unrated as I'm not sure how typical it is. Letting it warm up, the nose turns extravagantly fruity the taste gains a chalky sweetness, but it still fails to charm. A glass left out overight takes on a strong, pure scent of raisin - better. [Cork stopper; 40% abv; Sainsbury's, £22/50cl].
