  • Vinetasters: Loire red (Wilmette, IL): Served double blind. Drinks a bit like old-school Bordeaux (and in fact I initially thought that) with a light pyrazine note. More prominent pyrazines on the palate, but with clear acidity that is more Loire than Bordeaux. I thought that this was drinking maybe a decade older than it actually was, so that's slightly concerning at least in hindsight. My 5th, group's 12th.

  • Vinetasters: Brown Bag (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. (The pink capsule made me want to guess Vieux Chateau Certan, but this was obviously not that.) A little bit of herbal quality that actually reminded me a bit of Cheval Blanc (or some other good St. Emilion cabernet franc). Relatively ripe fruit with good structure, but the nose is definitely more impressive than the palate here. Some earthiness here as well. Overall a medium bodied wine, but the less than prominent pyrazines made pinpointing this in the Loire somewhat difficult.

  • Tasted blind. Dark fruit, cassis, a hint of bell pepper, herbs, and some oak/wood notes on the nose. Lovely palate with surprisingly delicate flavors. This is not at all over-extracted and the oak just needs a bit of time to integrate. Long finish. Drinking quite well right now. 93+
