Wines Enjoyed at John Kapon's 50th Birthday Bash (The Pool - New York NY): Small glass, brief note. Lots here, certainly not shy. Intensely floral start. Very ripe and rich but with the sheer density to pull that off. Needs a few years for some new oak to fully absorb and to shed a bit of the baby fat. 93+ point potential.

Burgundy, Day 4 (Beaune, France): Bottled two days ago, this was tough to evaluate, as this seemed to feel a little raw with respect to the acids. This has the expected raw power from the vineyard, but the acidity here seemed to be a little imbalanced and showing a touch green. There was a little bit of reduction on the nose as well. From 80-year-old vines.

2018 is the first vintage of the Batard Montrachet. 13.2% alcohol. A gorgeous array of buttery new oak toast that reminds me of d’Auvenay / Dugat-Py white oaking. Special aromatic buttery toast with vibrant tree fruits and white orchard fruits. Expressive and bold with flamboyant spices. Really attractive. (92-93/100)
