Community Tasting Notes (2)

  • Some acidity but this wine is totally off balance due to the alcohol. While it’s not impossible to have such high alc for a Brunello, it is if the fruit cannot support it. I won’t rate unless it improved on day 2, but I do not like. No balance, little flavor or complexity. Sigh.

  • Initially the nose is expressive and typical, and the palate is rich and rounded (15% ABV), but there is a raw edge to the finish. After two hours in the decanter there is a slightly weird red apple note which pervades the whole wine and the finish is like chewing on a Granny Smith apple skin. There is also a slight oxidative note on the finish. Difficult. On the second day the bitters have simmered down a bit and there is a smoky, plummy character on the nose, but the raw bitters are still clearly present on the palate, and the oxidative character is now noticeable on both the nose and the finish. Tastes older than its age. I don't think this is an off bottle, it is probably the character of the wine. Not rated.
