  • I'm not saying that pinot noir is harder to make than other wines, but there must be a reason that people that make great pinot don't diversify. Case in point: the 2017 Kuleto Estate Pinot Noir. And to be clear, the diverse portfolio of Kuleto Estates (Cabs, Zins, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Pinot; you can't be good at everything) isn't this Pinot's only problem. One doesn't hear a lot about Napa Pinot, because the good folks of Napa County know better than to grow Pinot there. It's just too damned hot. And don't get me started on blending Pinot. I mean, 3% Muscat? Come on now. Anyway, on the PnP, the appearance is clear ruby and quite pretty, but, sad to say, that's where it ends. The nose is strawberry jam and... new Tupperware? The mouth is cloying, sweet, and overly oaked. Suffice it to say, I don't hold out a lot of hope for that second bottle, but what can I say; the wine club ships what the wine club ships.
