  deepish red color with some age at the rim, genteel nose of aged cassis, pepper, blueberry and bramble, gravelly textures, on the palate fully mature with cassis and waves of soft bramble, dusty notes, savory and complex on the mid-palate leading into a good long finish with some hardness at the very end, 1989 was not kind to Napa Valley- indeed at even many of the best addresses it is often the one out-of-balance wine nestled among two decades of otherwise good outcomes, 20 years ago- this wine would be considered a triumph for 1989- now at over 30 years of age this is an inspiring outcome and a tribute to the quiet greatness of Duckhorn over the years, I would drink soon to be safe but this is in a great place and show no signs of imminent decline.
