  • Deep ruby red this is a blend of 54 CS and 46 CF. A fairly opulent nose that shows toast, sweet baking spice, roasted meat, loganberry, blackcurrants and some ripe Victoria plum. Down the line interplay of oak and fruit with a touch of smoke/charcoal with warm bold fruit - a tad old-school.
Full-bodied with the entry is sweet heading to opulent, and tannins build quickly to be firm and grippy yet quite ellagic in nature with toast, nuts and fewer fruits. A fair amount of extract, the oak is still to integrate fully and needs to settle, but the wine is nicely structured with lively acidity. Medium in length it closes with marjoram/oregano herbs, tobacco and ripe black plum.

  • Derek has provided an excellent detailed review, so I will just add a few comments. This is a real crowd pleaser -- good body, smooth texture, nice finish. It is a blend with 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Cabernet Franc, 27% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. The large contributions of Cabernet Franc and Merlot guarantee smoothness while the Cabernet Sauvignon provides depth and flavor. 13.5% alcohol. An enjoyable wine now, and probably good for another year or two.

  • Groot Constantia Zoom tasting. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of capsicum, graphite, blackcurrant, blueberries, fresh leafy herbs. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of cedar, milk chocolate, blackcurrant, blackberries, blueberries, graphite lead, cinnamon spice + woody sweet spices. Long finish.
Good quality. Not bad, quite a well-made Cab blend. Approachable but should develop nicely over next 2-3 years also.
