  • OK, here we go. This is definitely not your "pretty delicate flower" CA pinot. Quite the opposite. This is big, bold, rich pinot with lots of body and power (for a pinot). The color is dark and dense, and the nose is in your face with cinnamon stick and black cherry. A shrinking violet this is not. This is weighty stuff, but with enough fruit to balance out what must be relatively high (slightly noticeable, but that is a quibble) alcohol. Drinking beautifully at age six, it seems to be right in the middle of its sweet spot. I would opt for drinking now to capture all of the lovely ripe fruit. 5-13-15-8: 91/100.

  • I've drunk several bottles of this already, but am compelled to write a note after tasting this one day after a Melville pinot that got 93 points from a major wine publication. This is notably better, fresher, better structure, better mouth and nose. I guess I should not be surprised. This is from a lawyer friend of mine who gave up law for winemaking, and boy am I glad he did. Most of Brett's wines are excellent, and excellent values as well. In this case, a lovely ruby color with excellent legs. Nose is penetrating with gorgeous black cherry fruit. Full, rich mouth with lovely, lovely pinot fruit that has grip and an unctuous edge to it. Lasts and lasts on the finish. I would put this up against 1er cru Burgundy from good domaines all day--and it would likely win! Has the extra dimensions we all look for but too seldom find. I have had few CA pinot experiences as good as this one. Bravo, my friend. 5-13-18-9: 95/100.
