Community Tasting Notes (7) Avg Score: 90.5 points

  • This was a strange one. I would agree with the most recent comment before mine that it lacked some depth, if not showing quite an underwhelming finish. With that said, I liked the first part of the experience a lot; the nose was immediately aromatic and the wine very light on its feet, elegant & silky, in no way giving the impression of its 15%. I just had a single glass day 1 then re-corked. Day two we ended up going out so I put in fridge. Day 3 i didn’t really fancy drinking but had a thimble full from fridge just to make sure it wasn’t going to pot, and all was well. Day 4 today and I just shared what remained with a friend, of course having brought back to room temperature before. It has lengthened and filled out a bit and retained all the good parts also. I am giving it 92 but i will wait on my remaining bottles for a couple of years at least. I think this has the potential to become something special.

  • This wine falls short of the depth I anticipate at this tier. Its profile features savory red fruit enveloping an earthy core, but the finish is disappointingly brief, lacking complexity. It may be premature to enjoy fully, as the tannins and acidity require time to integrate. Optimal enjoyment likely after 2027.

  • Dark appearance with tobacco and tar with dried leaves and marzipan. Intense and full-bodied with pronounced tannins and a bit too prominent alcohol. Dark fruit and some tertiary notes, but overall too young. Save another decade at least.

  • Color: medium garnet
Nose: powerful, redolent of dark flower petals, anise and licorice, fresh basil leaves and tomato leaves, red plum and sour cherry, camphor, bitumen
Palate: medium bodied with high acidity and high tannins that are quite biting on the gums. Very balanced though, because the aromatics are just so present. It drinks quite fresh if one doesn't focus too much on the tannins
    Finish: quite long

Every bottle of barolo 16 I open is a joy, this one is no exception. Very much in my wheelhouse: tannic and acid without too much compromise but still with a nose that has many many facets. Sure it's too early but this is just so interesting and with the right meal (beef) this is already a joy. High barrier to entry, high reward, like most truly fine things in life. Next one in 5 years. For now, 3 hours of air minimum

  • Decanted and drank over 2hours. Cherries, hints of tobacco and tar, a touch of menthol. This is a nice uncomplicated versatile Barolo with a great qpr. 91-93
