Stored in a pristine 55 degree cellar since purchase, back in 2008. Bricked, showing a dull garnet while being poured into a Riedel decanter, but still maintains a dull ruby core. Pronounced, complex and mature aromas and flavors; all tertiary characteristics: dried vegetables and herbs (parsley, tomato leaf, celery and bell pepper), old leather, aged cigar tobacco, cocoa powder, chunky all spice, dried red fruits (red berries, cherries, and plums), and crusty red dirt. Well integrated structure displaying power on the very long, satisfying finish. Drink now, additional cellaring unlikely to support further development; although mature, this might drink well for another 2-5+ years. Enjoyed with homemade pepperoni pizza.
I’ve enjoyed at least one bottle of various 2001 Brunellos every year since 2011, and every one has been very good to outstanding. As all are now at maturity, many, especially the Riservas, can still be enjoyed for another 3-10+ years, depending on the producer.

Appearance: deep garnet and dense. The nose is intense and complex with aromas of dark fruit, mushroom, leather, forest floor, asphalt and dried rose. Well integrated and wooden notes. On the palate, fullbodied with intense fruit, deep and complex, smooth, peppery, hints of campher, gripping acidity, soft and ripe tannins. Super long. Very well balanced, perfectly matured, well structured. Amazing wine.

I gently layed this down for almost 5 yrs. before opening. Deepest, darketst, dense inky color with raspberry, toasted walnuts and prunes on the nose lead to a full-bodied fruity palate that's beaming with complexity, yet balance and having porportion. A big, powerful mature wine. I like the profile very much.

Mixture of peppery, spicy, and oregano tastes predominate early. It had a wide palate and long duration of flavor. Tolerated decanting well and did not fade. Matched up well with spicy food. As the palate evolved, more berry (raspberry) favors developed although they did not overcome the initial tastes listed above.
