  • Must say, I thought the 14% ABV was a ruse to get around some import duty and it really is not very noticeable. This is pretty interesting both medium bodied but also saline and mineral with a long lemony finish. Finish is bracing and almost sour without food, but sings with a piece of cheese. Lovely and very different.

  • This (via Google translate, so awkward) from an Italian site selling this wine - interesting!

    *****

Made from 100% Barbera grapes from the 2017 vintage, originally intended for use in the base of Attaccabrighe sparkling wine. Unfortunately Enrico was slow to collect them, finding himself with a mass of 14 ° in alcohol in the tank. Once the idea of sparkling wine has passed, he has thought of an original and experimental way. Processed as if it were a white wine, Ostregheta was vinified with fermentation in cement and fine fermentation in wood. Refinement of 8 months in sulphite-free barrels working on fine lees without batonnage. In spring, pouring into concrete with sulphitation for another 18 months. The idea was to use oxidation as a glue between alcohol content and acidity. In fact, the 14th vol. of alcohol are not perceptible in a wine wisely managed, destined to become a very interesting way for future sparkling bases characterized by greater complexity and richness.

  • Very unusual. Garagiste calls it a “white Barbera” and says it’s a 2017 but I can’t find a grape or a year on the bottle. It’s different and it’s good. Almost oily on the nose. Tangy and bright with a backbone and great length. Okay but not great value at $20. Garagiste limited it to three per customer but I’d be happy to have six or twelve. Cute label too.
