Sweet and unidimensional (blueberry all over the place as noted by another taster). Still going strong despite its age, but tiring to drink. Needs food.

Very advanced nose of compote, balsamic vinegar, and tarragon. Syrupy mouthfeel, with intense fruit and strong acidity. Tannins are mostly resolved and very smooth, but still weighty. Intense flavours of vincotto, balsamic vinegar, and dusty leather. The fruit seems to have reduced and concentrated over the years. It has also developed some sour, vinegar-like characters, but not enough to ruin the wine. A little past its peak, but still powerful; went nicely with coq au vin.

I keep finding these odd bottles deep in my "cellar". This one, described as "a monster" by mr Parker many moons ago had a super crumbly cork so had to resort to the port screen. Bits of cork everywhere by the time I had it in the decanter. Yes, blueberries, rich and deep but with a refreshing acidity saw me through the first glass. From the on the wine developed, feisty but gentle enough. Lots of flavour and some length. Glad that I bought it all those years ago. Isn't wine a wonderful thing the way that it ages along with the drinker?

Mature, old-school; very red fruit, raspberry nose; medium finish, great balance; mature, but not over the hill.
