Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 91.2 points

  • Recommended by the enthusiastic staff members of Starmore Boss, a small wine store in Sheffield, England: Unfiltered Syrah made by a Scot in Catalayud, Spain -- exactly the sort of thing that makes my wife nervous. But she loved the wine. It is full-bodied, medium acidity, dark-fruited, smooth, with minimal funk and no pepper, tasting more like a Southern than a Northern Rhone. Other notes have suggested that it might be too young to drink now, but that was not our experience.

  • Still quite purple. Full bodied - prominent pepper: black and green. Graphite. Liquorice. Then dark fruits. These flow onto the palate where there is also a nice degree of freshness, especially for the weight of the wine. The pepper and liquorice became much more integrated with the dark fruits on night 2. Moderate tannins. Long. Really like this wine a lot - have had multiple vintages. This is drinking well, but over two nights it showed that some more age is going to be beneficial.

  • A mistake to pop and pour this one with our neighbors after an evening out in the village. Completely green and closed. Structure is there just too early to open. A 90+ for quality, a 70 for drink ability. Took back the glasses and replaced with a 2015 Thalarn, which did the job
Next day already much better. Night in the fridge with air opened up the wine. Still young, still primary, yet some fruit coming through.
Second say even better. At ease, even if still quite primary. Good to lift to 92.
One to hold two more years at least, then to give ample air to enjoy.

  • Really fresh / refreshing. Much more than you might expect. Actually pretty mouthwatering. Purple. Sweet fruit. As it warmed from cellar temperature and opened up I also got notes of anise.

Cherries. Some pepper. Nicely integrated tannins. Long. This is pretty young. I know these age well.

  • Color: Transparent ruby. Nose: Dark and red berries.Mouth: Excellent expressiveness. Massive fruit but at the same time lean and mineral. There is a hint of herbs. The 14.5% alc. is well hidden. Very long. Medium to full bodied. The tannins are noticeable but not offensive, at all. It lacks a bit complexity and is a bit wishy-washy.
