Love the style: pale copper/orange color; light and refreshing; medium aromas and flavors of tangerine, Meyer lemon, pink grapefruit, ripening peach, and white pepper, underscored with some salty brine and ashy minerals. Great balance of fruits, acidity and complexity. Perfect accompaniment to the smoked salmon, hard cheeses, and salty, grain crackers. Dry, medium finish. Drink by late 2022 or early 2023.

Although not quite as good a showing as the prior bottle enjoyed this past October, this was still very good. I found food greatly improved my overall experience; aged Gouda and whole grain crackers really enhanced this wine. As a point of reference for additional comments, there is another slightly inaccurate listing for this wine: “2019 Casata Montfort Pinot Grigio”; both the producer (Casata Montfort) and the Appellation (Trentino) are actually “Cantine Montfort” and “Vigneti delle Dolomiti” respectively. Casata Montfort is actually the “brand name”.

Like the other taster (wmccone54) I'm not a fan of Italian pinot grigio. Was interested to try this, not least because it was pink and from the Dolomites. Colour is nice, nose is not that appealing, but the palate is great. Light and fresh with loads of minerality, for sure a saline tinge to the length along with some tart apple and meyer lemon (sweeter than regular lemon). Not a hugely long finish, but juicy and tasty and a great apertif. For $13 or so, amazing.

Generally, I’m not a fan of Italian Pinot Grigio, as I’ve found most of it to be insipid plonk, lacking any real “character”, made in a mass produced manner. With that said, I believe this is probably the best rendition of the “Italian style” I’ve ever enjoyed. Producer’s website says the grapes were macerated overnight in a sealed press, thus giving it the pale salmon-copper color, without adding weight to the light texture. Exhibits wonderful, fresh, medium plus aromas and flavors of white blossom, white salty stone, tart lime, tangy grapefruit, sour green apple, unripened white peach, and white pepper. Complex and balanced, the high acidity complements and balances the fruit, while also supporting a very long, lively finish. A definite buy in the future.
