Took a couple hours in the decanter to come around. Nice mix of acidity, tannins, mushrooms/dirt, and cherries. Should get better in a few years, but only 88-89 right now.

Light and smooth and fruity. But elegant. Wonderful secondary notes of spice, chocolate, burnt woodchips. Not barnyard like some new world pinots, but considerably more subtle and graceful.

vivid red, brilliantly clear. vry light body, hard, thin and dilute; slightly green and sour fruit with a dry tannic teabag finish which came across particularly coarse in contrast to the fairly anemic bodied wine. Left this aside to try next day. Day2: shed some of the sour and greenness, tannins melded and smoothed significantly. Overall, the wine fits the description of the Volnay, probably not the highest representation, but probably also not my style. 83-84
