  Prior bottle was almost 23 months ago and the wine has improved in that time, along the lines I'd hoped. Nose was virtually identical, with red cherry, red berries and spices with an earth undertone. Close to medium bodied with red cherry upfront, showing a bit more roundness that before as well as a touch more depth on the backside. The tart red cherry and cranberry along with the acidity seemed in better balance with the mid-body fruit than previously, while the mid-body itself has opened up a bit more. Still doesn't have the depth, blackfruit or overall complexity of the 2016, but that said, it has certainly come together quite well and can continue to improve along these lines a bit more. Next bottle for me in Q1 2025.

  Red cherry, red berries, spice and earth notes on the nose. Between light and medium bodied (11.9% ABV) with red cherry both upfront and through the middle. Adds tart red cherry and some cranberry towards the back. Doesn't have quite the depth or complexity of the 2016 from last night. As the tart notes come into better balance with the mid-body fruit with a bit more time, I think this will show a bit better. After being open about 3+ hours, had gained some depth, but the tart notes on the back still weren't integrated with the fruit, leaving the wine feeling a little tight on the backside. I'll plan to open my next bottle in Q1 2023.
