  • Great from the PnP but open an hour really starts to show some beautiful balance.

  • Continues to be excellent, need about 15 minutes to come together. Still has a decent backbone so if you only have one I would wait a few more years.

  • No formal notes.

This was amazing. Took about 10-15 minutes to open up.

Nose of fresh dark red and black fruits, soft and deep earth, tree bark and twigs. The fruits turn macerated after some time (something that I have missed for a while now), soft chocolate and dark green shrubbery appears.

On the palate you get an abundance of dark red and black fruits, this pleasurable creaminess to the fruit (not vanilla but more of like the white milkiness you get in a berry smoothie), deep black earth, softly bitter graphite, a touch of asphalt and steeped tea.

Like any young wine, this showed a lot of fun youthfulness but acted mature for its age. There's depth behind the macerated fruit that indicated great structure and hidden layers, waiting to be revealed with time. I hope they will eventually bottle this in 750s, it would be nice to follow this through time.

  • The best 2018 I’ve had to date and ready to go from the PNP, rating a 98 because while very enjoyable lacking complexity at this stage. Likely upside but not at the same level as ‘16 or ‘15 currently.

  • 2018 Carter Wines: This is a fabulous wine, I guess my only issue with it is that is doesn't separate itself from the much less expensive OG. I wish they made this in 750ml's and weren't stuck on the Schrader model, because then I'd have much more occasion to try it as it evolves.

Broken record on the nose. It falls along the lines of all the other BTK's, with creme de cassis and violets dominating, complemented by black cherries, licorice and hints of forest floor. This is the winner in the "how insanely opulent is it possible to make a wine" category. It's absolutely massively packed with fruit, even more so than the OG, and layered to perfection. Terrific silky mouthfeel and incredible depth of flavor. It is hard to find a lot of anything else going on but the fruit at the moment, but the incredibly fine tannins and crazy long finish make this something to behold. Just don't expect it not to overwhelm whatever else you are eating or drinking at the time.
