  • A touch unusual on opening as I instantly caught a strong nose of pear and slight black currant on the nose. There is a touch of oxidative quality to it, but not in a sherried way. Generally I wasn't crazy about this wine and wanted the palate to be juicier and richer, but the wine has incredible mid palate and finish. When I don't like wines, I start to tear them apart in my head and look for factors to criticise to justify my ideas. In this case, the more I examined the wine, the more I enjoyed it which was an unusual experience and more impressive than loving a wine right at opening.

On the second day, the black currant carries through to the palate in a slightly bitter way with a grippy edge on the palate. But once the mid palate kicks in, the finish just steals the show in this vinous way, almost like when you drink young chenin in Loire and realise that behind the shelled up underripe fruit, there is something amazing just waiting to come out in a few years.

Would love to buy a few more and keep them for 5+ years as I imagine the dividends will be excellent.

    D/g 04/20 and 0.8 g/l dosage
