  • Tasted blind in VV.

Pale yellow-green color. Quite rich, expressive and somewhat toasty nose with rather oak-heavy aromas of creamy oak, some toasty oak spice, a little bit of smoke, light pineapple tones and a hint of savory wood spice. The wine is medium-bodied, fresh and balanced on the palate with flavors of juicy red apples, some toasty oak, a little bit of creamy richness, light mineral notes of chalk dust, light nutty tones and a hint of pineapple. Good, high acidity. Quite long, enjoyably acid-driven and rather complex finish with flavors of toasty wood, some red apple, a little bit of zesty citrus fruits, a hint of creamy oak and a touch of pineapple.

On the nose the wine felt a bit overtly oaky, but on the palate the wine turned out to be surprisingly balanced and fresh in style, something not unlike a lower-tier Burgundy with some oak. I was very positively surprised to learn this was a Laroche wine, since their Languedoc Chardonnays have failed to impress me before. This wine, on the other hand, came across not only surprisingly balanced, but also showing some potential for further development. A pretty nice, judiciously oaked Chardonnay. Good value at 13,99€.
