  Thick dark brown in the glass. Nose of soft figs, rich dates, dark caramel, allspice. Palate: savour the dates, figs, raisins, prunes and dark chocolate candied peel. It is unctuous, sweet, and irresistible with the right puddings (Christmas pudding; anything with rich plums, prunes, dates (fruit cake?), nuts; vanilla ice cream). Christmas in a glass, although a bottle will keep for ages if you don’t drink it all then.

  Deep brown colour. Nose has strong raisins, figs, orange marmelade, some jammed apples with cinnamon. Taste has strong burnt sugar, dates and raisins. Subtler notes of candied orange, hazelnuts, chocolate, coffee. Medium-sweet, medium acid. Good.
