  • PnP. Natural cork closure. Dull dark ruby red. The nose starts with a punch of vanilla and water-soaked old wood notes. With air, aromas of mulberry, dried plum and dark fruit home-made jam emerge. There is also some distant earthy and mineral notes. The same nuances on the palate, maybe more dark jammy fruits and even less fresh notes. Very smooth. Light-to-medium bodied. A tad flat on the mid palate as the tannin and acidity are quite modest. Short-to-medium finish. Not sure, whether this is already behind the peak or it is just such style.

  • Now here is a unique wine …. from the red grape Areni. The archaeological site known as the Areni-1 cave, which dates back more than 6,000 years, houses the oldest known winery in the world. This red is crafted from the indigenous Areni grape, grown in volcanic soils, and will be ripe and dark with excellent structure. Dullish but vibrant red, can see through like a darker pinot. Beautiful aromas (once it opens up) of fresh cherries, strawberries and currants. 13.5% alc. A few swirls reveal a forest floor earthiness and a dark minerality. The wine sees no oak. A vague drying tannic structure. But the red berry flavours dominate. A freshness to the wine. Medium bodied. Medium acidity. Very different flavours from other wines. I would maybe try a slight chill next time. Not a long finish. Tasty, but not mouthwatering. Good fresh summer red wine. Its almost like a glass of cranberry juice and strawberry juice without the sweetness, and without the tanginess. A slight streak of that bitterness. Definite re-buy
On day 2 I was picking up notes of rhubarb on the flavours.
